Results are exact arithmetic on the numbers you enter. "Percentage points" and "percent change" are different things — this tool labels which one it shows.

How to use the Percentage Calculator

  1. Pick the tab for the question you're asking: X% of Y, X is what % of Y, or Percentage change.
  2. Type your two numbers — the result, the formula, and (for changes) the increase/decrease label plus the absolute difference appear instantly.
  3. Check the formula line under the answer to confirm the tool divided by the base you intended.

What this tool doesn't do

  • The change tab reports percent change (relative to the starting value), not percentage points — a move from 2% to 2.5% is a 25% increase, or +0.5 percentage points. Both are true; the tool shows the relative one.
  • Results are exact arithmetic on what you type — for money, round the final result to cents yourself; the tool won't decide your rounding rule for you.
  • It can't tell you which question to ask — make sure you've picked the right tab before trusting the number.
